Milan Between Historical and Contemporary Architecture


From 14th to 27th of July 2019.

This summer school discusses the current debates on historical and contemporary architecture. It reviews the historical and contemporary architecture of the city of Milan. It discusses the objectives, challenges, constraints and principles restoration and conservation. It explores the changing inner city and technologies used in some buildings, also exploring the sustainability concepts in restoration projects with detailed drawings.  

The summer school analyzes best practices of historical and contemporary architecture projects to draw lessons and ıdentify the theoretical and methodological challenges which face historical and contemporary architecture. 


  Introduction
The Summer School is a fruitful cooperation between the University of Politechnico Di Milan and Knowledge Transfer Network for International Scholars – KTNIS.

The Summer School deals with the historical and contemporary architecture and the notions of Restoration and Conservation. Exploring the different aspects of architectural development, social, economic, cultural and policies. Introducing different conservation and restoration projects in Milan.

To be eligible to apply for this Summer School.
  • International applicants with architecture, urban design, urban planning, urban studies, physical planning, arts, applied arts, landscape architecture, gardening, social sciences, and geography backgrounds are eligible to apply.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction (English language), as we may ask you to submit a proof of language proficiency or to make a phone call interview with the applicant.
  • Respect the specific criteria and applicable additions for application process.

The accommodation will be in the BMF student hostel (see also: http://koll.uni-obuda.hu/index.php?tagkoll=kukac), is located 400 m from the Tram line 4 and 6, also 700 m from the Grand Boulevard and the M3 Corvin-Negyed Metro Stop. The hostel rooms will accommodate from 2 to 4 applicants, the rooms have with private bathrooms and a work desk, with a kitchenette as well. Kitchenware for preparing your own meals can be rented at the reception. Breakfast is available on weekdays with extra fees. Free WiFi access is available in the public areas and rooms as well. Laundry is also included but you will need to buy or bring your own washing powders, please ask the receptionist guy for the laundry room key.

BMF hostel is 1 km from the Keleti Railway Station and from the Arena Plaza Shopping Centre. The Puskás Ferenc Stadion can be found within 1.7 km from the Corvin metro station.

The 8th district of Józsefváros is a great choice for travelers interested in city trips, museums and monuments. This is our guests' favorite part of Budapest, according to independent reviews.

Townscape & Streetscape Renewal

From 5th to 11th of August 2018.


The workshop aims to prepare an analysis of existing situation (enhancing the local values) and a development concept for the most important Streetscape influencing elements/features - from landscape architectural point of view. The workshop will be hosted by Szent István University, Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Department of Garden Art and Garden Techniques, under the supervision of the Dean of the faculty, Prof. Karlócainé Bakay Eszter and the Head of the Department Prof. Fekete Albert. 


  Introduction
The summer course is a fruitful cooperation between the zent István University, in Budapest and Ain Shams University, in Cairo.

The course will deal with the notions of Townscape and Streetscape Renewal, and their influences on the urban environment and the landscape of Budapest/Törökbálint as a case study to apply landscape concepts in Hungary with field visits and excursions to the city of Törökbálint

Main analysis criteria related to streetscape, townscape and settlement structure:
